Conversations with Taskmo’s internal teams (business, operations, and support) to understand hiring inefficiencies.
User Interviews
Discussions with gig workers and employers to learn about their struggles with job discovery, onboarding, and payments.
Field Observations
Examined how businesses manually managed recruitment, worker verification, and task tracking
Key Insights
Gig workers found job searching inconsistent and unreliable due to fragmented recruitment channels.
Businesses lacked trust in worker verification and struggled with onboarding and payments.
A centralized, tech-driven system was needed to improve efficiency and transparency.
Competitor & Industry Research (Secondary Research)
To position Taskmo effectively, I analyzed market trends and competitors to understand best practices and gaps. This included:
Competitive Benchmarking
Studied platforms like Betterplace, GigIndia, Field Nation, Awign, Wonolo, UpShift, and TaskRabbit to compare features, user experiences, and business models.
Industry Reports & Market Trends
Researched McKinsey’s 2016 report on gig work to understand workforce motivations, flexibility, and economic impact
App Store & Web Reviews
Analyzed competitor feedback to identify user frustrations and missing features.
Key Trends Identified
Standardized worker verification & compliance to build trust between businesses and gig workers.
Mobile-first approach to enable easy job discovery and tracking for workers on the go.
Onboarding & training support to upskill workers and reduce hiring friction
Transparent payments & task tracking to ensure timely compensation and clear job expectations.
User & Client Needs Analysis
To validate our understanding, I conducted surveys and data analysis to gather quantitative and qualitative insights from both gig workers and businesses.

Ideation & Concept Development
(Gig Workers*)
After research, I moved into the ideation phase, translating insights into tangible design concepts. This stage involved brainstorming, sketching, iterating, and refining ideas to build a seamless gig work platform.
*We conducted Ideation & Concept Development for both Gig Workers and Businesses in parallel with separate teams. However, to provide a clearer understanding of the process, we’ll start by walking through the Gig Worker journey first, as it lays the foundation for the overall platform experience.
User Journey Mapping
To understand the end-to-end experience, I mapped out the current journey for gig workers. This helped in identifying bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
Gig Worker Journey (Before Taskmo)
Searching for jobs – Relies on social media, WhatsApp groups, or referrals.
Applying for a task – No standard process; must manually message employers.
Verification & Training – Often skipped or unclear
Task Completion – No real-time updates or tracking.
Payment – Delays, no transparency on earnings.
Improved Gig Worker Journey (With Taskmo)
Job Discovery – Browse available jobs in one place, based on location and skills.
Application & Verification – Seamless onboarding with ID verification.
Training & Guidelines – In-app training ensures clarity before taking tasks.
Task Tracking – Live progress updates and status tracking.
Instant Payments – Earnings dashboard with clear payout dates.
Initial Concepts
Before jumping into high-fidelity designs, I explored multiple low-fidelity approaches to ensure the platform met user needs efficiently.
Wireframing
To establish the core structure of the platform, I started with Low-fidelity wireframes to outline key workflows such as job discovery, application & verification, training & guidelines, task tracking, and payments.

Development & Handoff
With the high-fidelity designs finalized and validated, we moved into the development and handoff phase—ensuring a smooth transition from design to build, with a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and collaboration.
Finalized Design Approach
We selected the final design based on its ability to balance functionality, visual clarity, and user trust. The interface was simple, accessible, and professional—featuring real imagery and clean layouts that resonated well with users during testing. All key flows like job discovery, onboarding, and task tracking were optimized and ready for development.
Design System & Handoff
To streamline implementation, we built a robust design system in Figma with reusable components, typography, color tokens, and spacing guidelines.
All screens were annotated with developer-friendly notes
Interactive prototypes were shared to demonstrate flow and behavior
Edge cases and responsiveness were considered across devices
We worked closely with the dev team, holding regular sync-ups and reviews to ensure pixel-perfect implementation and resolve any functional ambiguities early.
Tools & Techniques – What We Used
To bring the product to life, we relied on a focused set of tools and workflows:
Figma
For wireframing, high-fidelity UI design, component library, and collaboration
Figma Prototyping
To simulate real interactions and test user journeys
Zeplin
For developer handoff and style guide documentation
Jira
For task tracking, feedback management, and design-development communication
This phase was all about clarity, communication, and collaboration—bridging the gap between design intent and development execution.
Conclusion & Reflection
This section highlights key takeaways from the project, personal growth as a designer, and potential opportunities to further improve or scale the product in the future.
Personal Reflection
Working on Taskmo was a meaningful experience that pushed me to design for scale, accessibility, and trust. It taught me the importance of understanding real user behavior—especially for gig workers navigating digital platforms for the first time.
I learned how vital it is to build with empathy, test often, and collaborate closely with developers and stakeholders to deliver a solution that truly fits the users’ needs. The process sharpened my ability to balance functionality with design quality, while staying grounded in user insights.
Next Steps
While the design is complete, there are several opportunities to evolve the platform further:
Explore regional language support for broader accessibility
Introduce personalized dashboards and progress tracking for gig workers
Continue refining the onboarding and verification flow based on feedback
Consider adding community features to increase engagement and support
Thanks for taking the time to go through this case study. I appreciate your interest and hope it gave you valuable insight into my design process, thinking, and approach.
